The city of Groveland, Florida is located in Lake County. As of 2010, the population of the city was 8,729, an increase of 189% from the 2000 census. Due to annexation with neighboring cities, the area of the city has more than doubled. Its land area has expanded more than five times. The area of the town is a desirable location for residential development. Residents will find many shopping options, parks, and restaurants within a short commute of each other.
Residents will also find the city’s historical tornado activity to be above state average and 62% above the U.S. average. In 2003, a category F3 tornado ripped through the city, killing three and injuring more than 70. The City is also close to two colleges: Saint Leo University and Seminole State College of Florida. While its natural disaster statistics are not the best, the community is safe for residents.
The lakes that surround the city provide residents with excellent recreational opportunities. For example, Groveland’s lakefront is home to Lake David Park, which was largely built by the Works Projects Administration in the 1930s. It is a popular place for boaters, fishermen, and mountain bikers. The park also includes multiple docks and a boat ramp. In addition, the city’s public beaches are nearby.
